Wedding in Tuscany: Villa Catignano

Dorotea and David had chosen me as wedding photographer near Siena for the their wedding in Tuscany. I returned to photograph two spouses in Tuscany after a very short time since the last time. The marriage lasted a whole weekend andd included a rehearsal dinner. For those who don’t know it yet, the rehearsal dinner is a dinner that the bride and groom – especially of American origin and especially in destination weddings – organize before the wedding. It’s an opportunity to spend the previous day with their guests so that they can get to know each other before the next day (if you want to know more, find something here).

Dorotea and David are German and were impressed by Tuscany, after a journey of some years before. Siena had remained impressed on them. How to blame them, a wedding in Tuscany is always extraordinary. And it is extraordinary also for a destination wedding photographer like me: beautiful spouses, enchanting sceneries, fabulous views. And then what about the Tuscans, unsurpassed in their sympathy.

Siena, city of the Palio, of art and history. Extraordinary in architecture, in its views, in its art. The location chosen for the event, Villa Catignano, was close from the center. It was an historic residence from the 1600s, immersed in a charming Italian garden and surrounded by statues depicting the Four Seasons. Villa Catignano is surrounded by the extraordinary Tuscan countryside of cypresses, vineyards, olive trees and an incredible games of lights.

In the old farmhouse of one of those countryside, the reahersal dinner took place: Dorotea and David arrived on board an Alfa Romeo spider from ’92, greeted by a thunderous applause from their guests. Beautiful evening, poignant speeches, great food by Terra e Gusto. It was the prelude to the next day. I can’t to write how beautiful that wedding venue was: the wedding photos are more reliable than any word I can use to tell you.
