Rehearsal Dinner: wedding in Puglia

I admit, even the first time I heard this word from two future spouses, rehearsal dinner, I ran to Google to understand what it was. And I can say that even with Google it was not easy. Remembering the sequence of e, a and h of rehearsal, even today, is for me one of the most hard task of all my work.

The Rehearsal dinner is a dinner that the bride and groom – especially of American origin and especially in destination weddings – organize before the wedding. It is an opportunity to spend the previous day with your guests. In this way they can get to know each other for party of the next day.

I would like to tell you about one of the most exciting rehearsal dinners I attended as a wedding photographer.

Nicole and Daniel were waiting for me on a June in one of the most suggestive masserie for weddings in Puglia: Masseria Le Cerase. Both Venezuelans had chosen to marry in Puglia: the echo of the charm of a wedding in Puglia also came strong in South America.

Just past the entrance of the farm it seemed to me to be on the set of an advertising spot. The two beautiful newlyweds came to meet me and accompanied me to the farmyard. At that moment, not even the smell and the sweet sound of the sizzle of the panzerotti (typical apulian food) – which I listened vaguely, far – diverted my attention from what suddenly appeared to me. About fifty people dressed completely in white, smiled and chatted amiably between a few snacks and a glass of wine of Puglia in their hands. The whitewash of the La Cerase farmhouse wall, lit by the warm sun at sunset, looked like a set created by a good artist. All around the rows of a small vineyard and the typical prickly pears seemed the best frame of a perfect picture. What an oasis of peace, what serenity! How wonderful it is to get married in Puglia, I thought as always, while I was taking pictures repeatedly.

A poetic catharsis that lasted a few minutes, the time to immortalize in some shots such a wonderful moment. Suddenly, however, I don’t know how, I don’t know why, I was almost awakened by that intense scent and that sizzle I was talking about earlier: sorry everyone, but the panzerotti were ready.

PS: Short Summary

For Italians – What’s the Rehearsal Dinner

A rehearsal dinner is a pre-wedding ceremony in the United States tradition, usually held after the wedding rehearsal and the night before the wedding ceremony. The guests generally include the married-to-be couple and others who form the wedding party. The rehearsal dinner costs are traditionally incurred by the groom’s parents. However, modern traditions allow for either the bride’s or the groom’s parents to incur these costs. The purpose of the rehearsal dinner is for the relatives and friends of the bride and groom to meet and have a good time. The couple generally takes this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped with the wedding preparations. Activities generally include toasting and the presentation of small gifts for those who have helped plan the wedding. (fonte: wikipedia)

For foreigners – What is Panzerotto

The panzerotto is a gastronomic specialty of Puglia, a circle of stuffed pasta, mainly with tomato sauce and mozzarella, closed on itself to form a crescent. There are many variations on the original filling of the Apulian panzerotto; the filling is known with the addition of pitted olives, anchovies, onion and capers. The panzerotto was born from the tradition of the poorest Apulian cuisine, when with the remainder of the bread dough these small crescents were cooked with pieces of cheese and tomatoes.
